Getting Your Legal Translation Approved

Translating legal documents, no matter what country you are crafting or using them in, is a strict and meticulous process. Since legal matters are sensitive and hold the potential for liability issues, legal systems are discerning when it comes to authenticity of legal translations. All court systems vary throughout the world when it comes to legal translations so you can never assume that the basic form of certification will hold up in regional and/or national courts.

BBRussian offers all four levels of certification that can be encountered in any legal system. Although the type of certification depends on how much proof of authenticity your translation requires, having a level of certification, notarization, County Clerk, or Apostille increases the chance of approval for your translation in a court system.

Certification (1^st Level)

About 95% of legal translations are approved using the first, and most basic, level of authenticity, which is certification. Virtually 100% of our translations alone are approved because of our thoroughness in procedure and offering of stamps, seals, and signatures with our translations. Both local, federal, and international courts respond well when they see these forms of authorization. BBRussian includes its credentials alongside of our certifications. Our authorization emblems include:

• Translator’s Signature and
• Our American Translators Association (ATA) Stamp

Notarization (2^nd) & County Clerk (3^rd)

If stamps, seals, and signatures are not sufficient for legal acceptance (which is not rare), then notarization is your next step. Law systems are cracking down on illegitimate translations so it is common for them to request a notary to authenticate that the translator present is in fact the real person who translated the legal document.

Sometimes even the notary must be authenticated and be approved by a County Clerk, which is a rarer request, but we do offer both of these levels upon request.

Apostille (4^th)

Finally, when all else proves to be insufficient for an unwavering court, an Apostille is the highest form of authenticity. The most common reason for an Apostille is for international legal cases. The US Department of State issues an apostille and records it as a legal document so that other legal systems from other countries will see that it has been validated. Upon request, we offer Apostilles for our legal translations.

Confidentiality / NDAs

Our professional Russian translators and project managers adhere to our industry-strict policy to never disclose any information deemed confidential by the client. Upon request, we offer NDAs (nondisclosure agreements) to further protect our clients.
